Climate Change

As part of the student blogging challenge, I wrote a post for BAD 2009 on the topic of climate change.

Climate change. It affects you. It affects me. It even affects the old guy living down the street who yells at people for stepping foot on his property.

-Sulfur hexafluoride-



It just looks like an ordinary list- nothing special. That list of gases is changing our Planet in an extremely dramatic way. The Gulf Coast is being destroyed by hurricanes. Italy is seeing a breakout of Malaria from the misquitoes landing there. The Great Barrier Reef is bleaching from an extreme El Nino, and the small creatures are being eaten away by acidic water. The acidic water is formed from Carbon Dioxide built up in the air that is absorbed by the oceans.



Floods are making life almost unbearable in the Island Nations. Farming is difficult and people are being forced to evacuate. Ski resorts in the Alps are having to shut down because of the Ice melting at a fast rate. Uganda (East Africa) is going through harsh deforestation. The trees growing there are meant to absorb the Carbon quickly, but they are all being cut down because they've grown onto the farm fields from their parks.



The greenhouse gases are causing; sea levels rising, diverted ocean currents, crop failure, animals becoming extinct, and many other treacherous things.



To reduce this climate change, perhaps we can recycle more. Recycling, reducing, and reusing will decrease the amount of hot gases being let into the air, gases that could get trapped in the atmosphere and potentially hurt us.
